In lesson 22, we learned the other major use of 了(le), which is to function as a “perfect aspect particle”. What does that mean? It means that 了(le) can be placed after a verb to indicate that the action described by the verb has occurred or is completed. One way to recognize this use is to see that 了(le) is in the middle of a sentence, and is placed right after a verb.

For example, we can say

我早上吃了一碗面(Wǒ zǎoshàng chīle yì wǎn miàn).
I ate a bowl of noodles this morning.

This use of 了(le) corresponds quite neatly with the simple past tense in English. 你听了Dimsum Mandarin第二十二课吗(nǐ tīngle Dimsum Mandarin dì-èr-shí-èr kè ma)? Did you listen to Dimsum Mandarin lesson 22? Share you answer in the comments.
